Rug Care...
Each Living Rug is handcrafted from natural fibres, making every piece unique. With the right care and attention, your rug will remain soft, characterful, and long-lasting, ageing beautifully over time.
Hand-washing
Fill a tub with lukewarm water (no hotter than 30°C) and add a gentle wool or silk detergent. Place the rug face down into the water and carefully immerse it. Gently move it through the water, then allow it to soak for around one hour.
Rinse thoroughly with cold water, avoiding any agitation at this stage. Spin briefly to remove excess water, then hang on a line to dry naturally.
Machine Washing
If you are unsure about using your washing machine, we recommend hand washing your rug instead. Washing machines can vary significantly, and there is a risk of shrinkage if the temperature is too high or the cycle is too vigorous.
If you decide to machine wash, use a cold setting only and select a hand wash, wool, or silk cycle. Always choose the gentlest option available, as machines can differ in how they operate.
Once the cycle is complete, remove the rug and give it a good shake. Gently separate and fluff any flattened or clumped fibres using your fingers. Hang to dry naturally. Please avoid brushing your rug.
As an alternative, you may wish to try a traditional Nordic method known as a “snow bath.” Lay the rug on clean snow and gently work the snow through the fleece. The cold helps to lift dirt and refresh the fibres — it can be surprisingly effective.
Please note: these instructions are provided as a guide only. As washing machines vary, we cannot accept responsibility for any shrinkage or damage caused during machine washing.
